Exercise addiction is a serious disorder that develops when a person uses exercise in an unhealthy way. This behavior can look like an obsession or compulsion that directly affects a persons emotional and mental state. Exercise addiction is sometimes overlooked due to the idea that "exercising is healthy". We live in a society that emphazies the importance of exercise but we struggle to acknowledge that over-exercising can cause serious mental and physical issues. Exercise addiction is commonly found in those suffering from Anorexia, Bulimia and Orthorexia.
Common Signs of Exercise Addiction:
- Exercising for 2+ hours a day
- Feeling guilt or shame when not able to exercise
