Dialectical Behavior Therapy
Boca Raton Dialectical Behavior Therapist
Dialectical Behavior therapy (DBT) is a form of behavior therapy that focuses on teaching interpersonal effectiveness, distress tolerance, reality acceptance skills, emotion regulation and mindfulness. DBT focuses on the importance of acceptance, while also exploring our behaviors and thought patterns that may be causing us harm. A key feature when utilizing DBT is to identify a healthy balance in our thinking and emotions. Often times "black and white thinking" can be the cause of extreme emotions, which in turn causes emotional distress. DBT establishes a healthy balance between emotional awareness and behaviors while also identifying a "gray area" in our reasoning and actions. Abby utilizes DBT to treat eating disorders, adolescents, addictions and depression.
The Benefits of DBT:
- Improve emotion regulation
- Improve conflict resolution skills
- Increase ability to observe thoughts and behaviors
- Establish balance in thinking and behaviors
- Target problematic behaviors
