Self-Esteem and Body Image
Self-Esteem and Body Image Therapy
During adolescents it is not uncommon for kids to struggle with their body image and/or self-esteem. Between puberty, natural body changes, and feedback from peers, teens are almost forced to handle the pressure of their evolving bodies. This can be a confusing and difficult time for some and the importance of having support throughout the process is crucial. Not only is the body undergoing physical changes, but the changes in hormone production can also lead to feelings of irritability, insecurity and sadness which can lead to poor body image and low self-esteem.
I use the following therapeutic techniques and interventions to address self-esteem and body image issues in adolescents:
- Acceptance and Commitment Therapy
- Identifying core values
- Body Tracing
- Non-judgmental thinking
- Ideal self vs. Real self
